MARINE MAMMALS

The Greek sea and the rest of the Mediterranean host some of the most important species in the world. Marine mammals play a leading part. Nine permanent and five occasional but just as unique dwellers swim in Greek waters, and the health of our seas is reflected in theirs.

Unfortunately, most of these mammals are faced with the risk of extinction mostly due to human activity. Oil pollution, harassment by recreational vessels, noise pollution, climate change, disturbance, military drills, and the search for hydrocarbons threaten them all.

Let’s find out more about them and learn how to live with them and protect them.
